Just a reminder that just because you buy experiences or products that apparently are plastic free, that doesn’t mean that those companies are particularly concerned about being wasteful, so you can easily be incredibly wasteful indirectly.

For example in a flower store I worked at we flew roses in from Kenya and all kinds of other shenanigans you wouldn’t want to know, even though we were branded as green. Let’s just say I know how to pack and unpack a lot of stuff quickly.

When I worked in a flower store that pretended to be green we threw away tons of stuff. Like roses that didn’t have nice flowers on them, eventhough they’ll come back within a few months. And oh god so much paper and plastic! Like a significant part of my job was unpacking stuff, ripping apart boxes, and managing trash.

Not to mention that roses come from Kenya on an airplane!

Let’s be fair: it’s amazing that a bunch of apes are able to create any sort of order at all in such a huge and complex world. Still it’s fucked up.
