When I was a kid, Staples ran a back to school ad where parents were rejoicing to someone singing “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” This is my fourth back to school as a parent and I still cannot relate whatsoever. I miss my little buddies. :(

Idk, I don’t exactly rejoice about back to school time, but at the same time it’s nice to have a scheduled break for alone time/quite/“adult” time 😏/work

I think it’s just a matter of where your personality falls. Some parents thrive on the routines and busyness of having their kids around all the time and others feel happy because they need a little personal space and the school day gives them time to recharge and focus on other things. It’s not about loving their kids any less, the break tends to help them come back to family time with more energy and patience

I love my children, I love to take care of them, but holidays are quite tiring. I work from home, so I had for the last two months (less three weeks of my own holidays) to work while being a dad… and I can’t cut myself in half.

Right‽ The amount of times I’ve had to have the “I’d love to drop this work crap and play games with you, but we have to pay the bills” convo this summer… LMAO

Same. Mine has ADHD… Really the most clear-cut case of hyperactivity you’ve ever seen. Even with my wife at home and my mom in town most of July-August, it was more stressful than term time.

Oh I do understand needing a break and enjoying time alone! Especially for full time working parents. I only work part time so I’m not nearly as burnt out. The commercial from forever ago though was definitely coming from the “I hate my wife and kids” boomer humour of the time.
