I just have to post this because I am soooooo tired of all the videos and stuff I see all over the internet about how dangerous YouTube Kids is. It isn’t! It’s actually fine! You don’t have to let your kids have access to aaaaaallllll of the videos! There is a whitelist feature! It’s literally part of the set up process! JFC! My children only have access to videos and channels I specifically chose for them! Like PBS Kids! Please spread the word so I can stop running into these goddamn fearmongering videos.

Wish this worked with regular Youtube and a child account. Youtube kids literally cuts-off access to 99% of the legit educational content on Youtube. Most of what remains accessible is near-Caillou-level garbage, which is honestly the stuff I wish I could keep my youngest away from the most.

This has been my issue trying to get bilingual channels registered, for some reason a lot of channels for one country aren’t allowed in YouTube kids in another.

It really is bad, I agree completely! The few good things are usually available elsewhere anyway.

Oh I agree. I wish it was just a standard youtube feature. My kids are young enough still that the educational content on youtube kids is engaging for them, though

The whitelist didn’t work how I wanted on the pixel tablet, as in it ignored it. On the Chromecast, it works great though. I’m so glad that tablet died.

I knew this and let my child have YT kids for a while with only content I allowed, but even with that… I noticed a real difference in her behaviour when she had more use of it than ABC Kids. There’s something about the way it is designed that is problematic to young brains. Maybe it’s the same for adults using regular YT though!!

I got rid of YT kids after she had a rare meltdown, and I think she is much happier overall. If I want any content from YT for her that I think is ok, I use YTDLnis and store a local copy - that’s better anyway as it’s there even if the internet isn’t available.

We definitely still need to be careful about the overall time and stuff they spend online. I’m just annoyed at all the videos and posts and comments I keep coming across on various sites that say letting your kids use youtube kids at all is dangerous because they’ll find inappropriate videos.
